Tomorrow and Wednesday, we expect hundreds of contract faculty from across NYU to vote “YES” on forming the largest full-time faculty union at any private university in the country, Contract Faculty United – UAW.

Make a plan to vote UNION YES tomorrow or Wednesday

This historic moment is one that many of us have been anticipating for years. Together, we spoke to our colleagues and learned about each other’s jobs and lives. Together, we built a strong majority of union supporters from schools and departments across the university. Together, again and again, we demonstrated our strong support to the administration and our NYU community. Together, we secured neutrality from the NYU administration. Together, we won an election agreement that includes the largest possible unit of full-time contract faculty at NYU. Now, as a result of our community-wide solidarity, we are well-positioned to win our union and finally negotiate as equals with our employers. In joining with the more than 100,000 academic workers who have already formed unions with the UAW, we have an opportunity not only to improve our working conditions but to make NYU a stronger and more democratic institution.

But in order for any of this to happen, together, we all need to turn out and vote “YES” on February 27 or February 28. Voting will take place in Kimmel room 405-406 and 5 Metrotech room LC 400 (4th floor). You can vote any time between 8am and 7pm on either day and in whichever location is most convenient for you. The election will be overseen by the American Arbitration Association (AAA). When you go to vote make sure to have your NYU ID or government ID with you.

Here are what a few of your fellow contract faculty have to say about why they support forming a union:

If a majority of us votes “YES” to form our union, the administration has agreed to bargain with us in good faith. We will begin the process of democratically electing a bargaining committee and deciding as a representative group how we best wish to advance the interests of NYU contract faculty.

Every vote counts. We came this far together, and we will continue together. The more people who vote this week, the stronger we will be when we begin negotiations.

Talk to your colleagues. Make a plan to vote. And on February 27 and 28, vote union “YES”!!

In solidarity,

Organizing Committee
