Now that we voted to ratify our historic first contract by an overwhelming 89%, it is in effect. None of what we won would have been possible without years of strong majority support by contract faculty across NYU. On Friday, almost 150 contract faculty members from across the university met by zoom to talk about how we will continue to organize to build the power we’ll need to enforce our new contract. Our next important step: sign a CFU-UAW Membership Card.

Moving forward, we will ensure the NYU administration follows our contract in the same way we won the contract: by working together. Continued majority support for our union will give us more power to enforce our new rights and fight for further improvements. So it is critical that all contract faculty sign a CFU-UAW Membership Card. Signing your membership card will also give you the right to participate in union committees, meetings, elections, and votes.

Under our new contract, membership dues are currently 1.44% of gross pay with a one-time $50 initiation fee. Dues cover the cost of representation for everyone in our bargaining unit. Even if you signed an authorization card in the past, you must sign this new card to officially become a full CFU-UAW member and participate in our local union, UAW Local 7902. Please be sure to fill out the entire form to join the UAW, authorize dues to be deducted seamlessly from your paycheck, and, if you choose, contribute to the Voluntary Community Action Program to support pro-worker and pro-education candidates who fight for workers rights, fair immigration laws, research funding, and academic freedom.

The more of us who sign up as members, the more power we will have to make democratic decisions in our union, advocate for our community, enforce our rights, and fight for more. Please take a moment to sign up as a member now!
