Thanks to the bravery and steadfastness of you and all our colleagues, early Wednesday morning, we were able to extract from the NYU administration a historic first contract, with large raises, job security, and protections for academic freedom and shared governance.

You can find a full breakdown of our tentative agreement here. We also encourage you to read the articles that comprise the agreement, attend our upcoming town hall, and reach out with any questions. We have added a few highlights of what we won below. We will also send out a comprehensive summary of the full Agreement in the coming days.

For now, here are some highlights:

  • An average of 20% raises in the first year, with minimum raises of $14,000, then annual raises of 3.5% each subsequent year. We have secured raises especially for our lowest paid and longest serving colleagues.

  • A presumption of renewal after two successful reviews. If you’ve been reappointed twice already, you never have to reapply for your job again!

  • Individual development accounts (research budgets) of at least $2,500 for all contract faculty.

  • For the first time, retirement options including phased retirement or a retirement lump-sum buyout.

  • Protections for shared governance and academic freedom, including in reappointment and promotion.

CFU-UAW Town Hall on our Tentative Agreement & Ratification Vote

RSVP for our Town Hall on Friday, 3/27 from 11:00 am – 12:00 pm. If you’re on campus, we’ll be in Meyer Hall 121 (6 Washington Place); otherwise please click the link to register for Zoom. Come discuss the tentative agreement and highlights, get answers to questions, and learn more about next steps.

We will follow up soon with logistical information for voting on whether to ratify this agreement as our first union contract. The vote will take place online next week. To be eligible to vote you must be a contract faculty member at NYU, and have signed an authorization card. If a majority votes ‘yes’, the Tentative Agreement will go into effect.

Voting will be held electronically via a secret ballot, through the same platform as our Strike Authorization Vote. ElectionBuddy will send you an email with a unique link to your online ballot. If you cannot locate the email from ElectionBuddy with the ballot, including in your spam, junk, and promotions folders.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any questions or thoughts.

In solidarity,
