We met with the NYU administration twice this week so far, with more to come on Friday. We are getting closer to meaningful presumption of reappointment, and we’ve seen encouraging movement on leaves, benefits, and retirement options. We’ve also made strategic movement to concentrate our power and ensure that we’re focused on the issues that contract faculty care about most as our strike deadline approaches.
Contract faculty have repeatedly demonstrated overwhelming majority support for a collective bargaining agreement that addresses decades of inequity and low pay, protects our participation in academic decisions, and brings us closer to parity with our tenured peers. The administration has had nearly eighteen months to settle a fair contract. We on the BC are committed to reaching agreement — but if they continue to refuse to bargain in good faith, they will face a strike more disruptive than any we’ve seen on our campus in several decades.
For a detailed breakdown of recent sessions, reach out to an organizer or a colleague who was in the room, or follow along on our updated bargaining tracker here. As we head towards a strike deadline of 8:00 am on Monday, March 23, the best way to stay informed is to get involved.

Student Support
Our students are getting involved. As of this morning, 1,365 students have signed a statement supporting us. They’ve shared messages from support from global sites, from club meetings, and among their fellow international students. They’re learning about our jobs, teaching their classmates why our contract matters for their education, and helping us prepare to picket. We know our community is with us. But we also know that their support alone won’t win us a fair contract. Only we can do that.

Strike School
We’re the largest union of our kind in the U.S., and we are demanding a contract that reflects the diversity of our roles and the value of our work as half of NYU’s full-time faculty. Colleagues around the country are paying attention, and they’re eager to help.
Register for CFU/HELU Strike School
This Friday, March 18 at 5:00 pm, the national coalition Higher Education Labor United (HELU) is joining us for Strike School: Zoom in to learn from veterans of successful strikes at Rutgers, University of Illinois Chicago, and the University of Washington. We’ll be joined by Rebecca Givan, president of Rutgers AAUP-AFT; Aaron Krall, president of UIC Faculty United; and Iván Cruz, unit chair of full-time research scientists & engineers of UAW 4121 at UW.

Share our CFU Hardship Fund
Allies have started a hardship fund to supplement UAW strike benefits, and to support contract faculty who may face financial difficulty if the NYU administration stops our pay. Take a moment to donate, or share with supporters.
Next Session
We’ll sit down with the administration at 10:00 am tomorrow, Friday, March 20. Join us in the room or on Zoom — and be prepared to do some strike prep during caucus.
