This is Maria Rosa Brea, a Clinical Professor in the Department of Communicative Sciences and Disorders, and one of the many contract faculty organizing for a strong first contract. On Friday we announced that we had voted overwhelmingly to authorize a strike. With 75% of all contract faculty voting, 90% of us voted yes, to strike if necessary.
On Friday, we’ll learn how the administration responds.
We’ll be bargaining from noon to 5:00 on Friday. Please RSVP to observe and keep the pressure on the administration to agree to a fair and strong contract — one that guarantees a decent retirement; protects academic freedom, shared governance, and the academic core of the university; defends our international colleagues; reduces overwork; and financially recognizes and rewards our contributions to the university,
Then, stick around after bargaining. Our students/coworkers/union siblings in SWAN, the RA union, settled their first contract in December, and the administration agreed for the first time to pay them for their work. But their pay is six weeks late. They’re marching from the RLHS office on Broadway to Union Square, where they and City Council Member Harvey Epstein and former comptroller and congressional candidate Brad Lander will meet us when we finish bargaining.

Please don’t hesitate to reach out with questions.
In solidarity,
Maria Rosa Brea, Clinical Professor, Department of Communicative Sciences and Disorders
on behalf of CFU-UAW Organizing Committee
