Our union is increasingly showing its strength through solidarity, both among contract faculty and across the university. This past month, over 100 contract faculty from across NYU attended escalation workshops to discuss next steps in our campaign.
Today, contract faculty delivered an open letter – signed by colleagues from nearly every department in every school – to NYU President Mills’ Office. Our letter highlights the imminent necessity of a fair first contract, and urges our bargaining committee to call for a strike authorization vote if the NYU administration does not make more meaningful progress towards this end. You can read our letter here.

As you can see, our letter raises many of the core demands our campaign for a fair contract is fighting for:
-
Fair compensation
-
Job security and academic freedom
-
Protecting our scholarly and creative practices
-
Support for our careers and our families
Alongside us, tenured faculty led by our local chapter of the American Association of University Professors (NYU-AAUP) presented their own petition of support for our effort. Over 250 tenured and tenure-track faculty from across the university called on the administration to agree to a contract that defends shared governance and enshrined parity between tenured and contract faculty lines.

We will continue building our momentum and here’s where you can help make the difference. Our next bargaining session will be this Thursday, December 18, from 10am-2pm. We hope that the NYU administration comes prepared to make greater progress than in previous sessions. As always, please RSVP here if you can join us; the more contract faculty attending bargaining, the more clearly we can convey the urgency of our demand for workplace protections and economic improvements. As we saw in our two previous meetings, a large turnout has real effects in winning the contract we deserve. We pack the room, we get results.
Contract faculty from across campus have shared their commitment to organize towards a strike authorization vote in order to continue building leverage for us to win a contract that values the immense amount of work we do. In solidarity,
