Yesterday afternoon your elected bargaining committee had its second bargaining session with the NYU administration. As always, you can follow our progress towards a strong first contract by email, on the bargaining blog on our website, and on the bargaining tracker. And you can observe bargaining directly in person or by zoom – RSVP here to join our next session!

Yesterday the bargaining session began with the administration’s team giving a counterproposal for the Recognition article we had proposed in our last session. While we are not yet at agreement, it means we are making progress.

We then proposed four articles:

  • Union Security – This article would ensure the strength and stability of our union by making sure everyone pays their fair share and establishing that we can pay our union dues through a deduction from our paycheck.

  • Union Rights and Access – So far both the administration and we are committed to a positive working relationship. Union Rights and Access would continue that by making sure that the union has the information, space, time, and resources required to service the contract we’re negotiating.

  • Holidays – This article would enshrine that contract faculty members are not required to work on the holidays and during the breaks created by the University Senate.

  • Workspace and Materials – This article would guarantee that contract faculty can serve our students. It would provide usable offices for all so we can talk privately with students and ensure that our employer provides the technology and other supplies and equipment that we need to do our jobs.

The administration’s team agreed to two more sessions this semester: Friday, December 6, from 2pm to 5pm and Thursday, December 19 from 10am to 1pm. At those sessions, we will continue to propose new non-economic articles and respond to any counterproposals the administration offers us. RSVP here to observe these sessions.

The more people who come to bargaining in person or by zoom, the stronger our message to the administration: we are here to bargain seriously and make progress toward writing a strong first contract. Show the administration’s team that they’re bargaining not only with your eleven elected representatives but with the whole contract faculty of NYU. Click here to tell us you want to get involved in fighting for one or more of our 13 bargaining goals. It takes all of us.

In solidarity,
